Kingwood Dance Theatre, a non-profit organization, is a performing civic ballet company in residence at the Rowland School of Ballet. The group brings professional level productions to the Humble/Kingwood/Atascocita community as well as the greater Houston area. The ballet company dancers are selected from the advanced level students of the Rowland School of Ballet and from the outside by requested audition. Each December, the Kingwood Dance Theatre presents the full length production of the Nutcracker Ballet and later a spring concert performance. The company has been continually expanding its reach and scope with a varied repertory including classical ballet, story ballets, pas de deux, and contemporary and humorous/satirical works. In the fall of 1993, Kingwood Dance Theatre was accepted into the Southwest Regional Ballet Association (SWRBA-RDA), which involves 20 of the strongest civic ballet companies in a seven state region. This affiliation gives the dancers an opportunity to travel and compare their training and achievements with the brightest and strongest ballet dancers around the region, and to be seen by professional ballet companies and universities. Dancers are required to attend a minimum
90 technique class four days a week, plus two Pointe
classes, and are encouraged to add two additional
technique classes to their regime. The rehearsal
schedule usually requires another seven hour commitment
each week. |
